Fantasy F1 League - Rules
These are now the definitive rules for the 2023 season. I'm open to ideas for future seasons though so let me know if you have any suggestions.
First of all you need to register a team and then if you wish you can join a league if you wish.
Each team starts with a budget of £100M and can choose a total of 3 drivers, an engine, chassis and aero package. Teams cannot exceed their budget at any time during the season and prices of drivers may fluctuate depending on performance.
Before the season starts players may make as many transfers as they wish as long as they remain within budget. Once the season commences there is a limit of 2 transfers for each race and transfers are not allowed during the race weekend itself, after qualifying has begun until points have been updated after the race. This will typically be done within a few hours of the race finishing. You will be allowed to play a 'joker' TWICE per season that will allow you 6 transfers, enough to completely change your selections.
Scoring System:
- 1st - 25 points
- 2nd - 18 points
- 3rd - 15 points
- 4th - 12 points
- 5th - 10 points
- 6th - 8 points
- 7th - 6 points
- 8th - 4 points
- 9th - 2 points
- 10th - 1 points
ALL your chosen drivers will score points for each race, assuming they actually do score some points!
Drivers gain 10 points for qualifying on pole - this is whoever sets the fastest time in Q3 before penalties. So for example if a driver is on pole but takes a penalty he would still get the 10 points if his time was fastest. In the event of Sprint Qualifying, this is whoever wins the 'Sprint' race.
The driver who sets the fastest lap of the race scores 5 bonus points for their team.
Every driver scores a bonus point for positions gained during the race, based on their actual grid position and their final classified position. For example a driver starting 15th and classified 12th, scores 3 points for their team.
Points for engine, aero and chassis are awarded for the highest finishing driver as per the driver points, ie for finishing in the top 10 places. For example if you have Ferrari engines and the first Ferrari driver finishes 3rd and the other Ferrari driver is 5th you score 15 points for the highest finishing Ferrari driver.
Please note for engine selections you are in effect choosing a team and score points for the highest finishing car for that team when you choose an engine. For this reason you cannot choose Renault, Honda engines for example but instead choose a team such as Williams, McLaren etc.
After each race teams are awarded extra cash with which to improve their teams - £1M for all teams, £2M for those scoring less than the average score and £3M for those scoring zero - this is cumulative so if you join part way through the season you gain an addition £3M for each race you missed which will give those joining later on a bit of a chance to catch up.
The value of drivers and aero, chassis and engine components changes after each race to reflect their performance, so for example if a driver wins the race his value will generally go up and if an expensive driver was to not finish his value will tend to go down. The amount that values can change by is limited to around 10% of their current worth.
Scores are based on the results posted on the BBC Website

Warning I have become aware that a few other Fantasy F1 sites have been forced to close due to the FIA threatening legal action. It appears that they will not tolerate 'fan sites' unless they pay a licensing fee to use their 'Intellectual Property' such as driver names, images etc. As this site is free to play and and no profit is made I am not in a position to pay the FIA its licensing fee and so in the event that I am threatened with any action I will be forced to close the site. If you want to play and be guaranteed the whole of the 2023 season then I recommend you find a site that you have to pay to play as I suspect they will be paying the FIA's fees. However, the site will run as it has done for several years until (and if) I get threatened. I will keep the site updated regards this as soon as I hear anything.
